GICLÉE PRINTS WITH ANNE CORLESS

In our Giclée department we have been working with artist Anne Corless. We have started two print editions one of her "Cheetah on the Run" and the other "Mercy" a portrait. Anne is a professional artist working in a number of areas -portraiture and figurative art are her speciality. Landscapes and animal art - especially equine and wildlife art - are her passion. Anne also has an extensive background in medical art, Illustration and design. She has a postgraduate qualification in medical art, she is a registered Medical Illustration Practitioner, as well as being a registered nurse and midwife. All this experience gives the background for her creating her life-like animal and portraiture paintings.

To view all Annes present projects and paintings visit her website.

Anne has been fortunate to have lived around the world Kenya, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Australia. Throughout these travels she has had hands on experience with the animals she paints. If you would like to view Annes paintings first hand, visit the Animal Art Fair at Fulham Palace in London where she will be exhibiting from 5th - 8th May 2011

"Mercy" the portrait image that we have set up for a Giclée print run, is being used to raise money for the Feet First Worldwide Charity in association with Art of Giving.

Anne is determined to use her artwork, where possible, to help support charities. She supports Feet First Worldwide, which works so hard to prevent and treat physical disability, often in remote areas of the world. She is also passionate about animal welfare and has a particular interest in wildlife conservation and the need to support wildlife charities and loves working with equine charities.

It has been a pleasure to work with Anne on these two projects and I am looking forward to future print ventures with her.

LIGHTFAST GICLEE PRINTS PASS THE ANNUAL TEST.

Every year as print members of the Fine Art Guild we here at Abacus (Colour Printers) Ltd have to submit a fine art giclee print for independent testing. Both the paper and ink are tested for their lightfastness on the blue wool scale. An actual “live" giclee printed image is sent to the independent laboratory for testing at our expense.
Each year we have always passed this extensive examination to claim that the pigmented giclee inks are still the most permanent available today. We at Abacus (Colour Printers) Ltd remain loyal members of the Fine Art Trade Guild as our aims are the same - to ensure the most accurate permanent reproduction of an artist’s work.

We print giclee prints on both paper and canvas for our nationwide artistic clientele only using the best guaranteed acid free papers and 100% cotton canvas.
The giclee printing department is the entire responsibility of Sarah, who has artistic training. Such training enables her to communicate with our clients in a sensitive understanding way. Tone, colours in artistic terms, hue, richness, feeling and quality of reproduction are all important aspects of this communication. This is unique to Abacus.
However no giclee print can be successful without the best pre-press repro. Here at Abacus (Colour Printers) Ltd we have not one but two drum scanners to ensure accurate, sharp reproduction of your flexible painting. However no machine is any good without a skilful operator and Danny our repro manager has over 20 years experience of scanning fine art.

This all offers an unbeatable combination which ensures the best giclee prints. Why not give Sarah a call today to discuss your print requirements and ask about our 2011 offers.

COMMERCIAL POSTCARDS FOR PHOTOGRAPHER JEREMY MOORE

Jeremy Moore is a professional photographer based in West Wales. He has been printing postcards with us here at Abacus (Colour Printers )Ltd for over a decade. He likes to come to the press room to personally pass the printing "on press". In order to obtain an economical price for his post cards, which he wholesales into shops, he fills our SRA2 sheets with 11 cards(115 x 160) and has a print run of 3000 sheets.
This gives Jeremy a unit cost per card of approximately 6p (ex vat) and an excellent profit margin when wholesaling his postcards into retailers in Wales. www.wild-wales.com

Jeremy recently tried a cheaper local printer in Wales but in his own words “I could not believe how many mistakes they made and the print quality was not nearly as good which reflected in reduced sales of postcards. I am really pleased and happy to be having my entire postcard collection printed by Abacus again. The postcards look vibrant and have a clarity that only Abacus can print by using waterless offset printing”.

We here at Abacus welcome all publishers of postcards or greetings cards and will discuss and advise on the most economical way of printing for a cost effective range of cards. We have a range of special prices for filling the SRA2 sheet (640x450mm) with either postcards or greetings cards which is available by emailing or calling the office.
We’re here to help so give us a call.

CHRISTMAS CARDS STILL DELIVER- WE ARE CHRISTMAS CARD PRINTERS

A recent article in a national daily newspaper commented on how people love sending and receiving cards especially Christmas Cards.
The Christmas card is often the only annual communication with friends and relatives and immediately conveys the message that they are not forgotten. But remain forever embedded in our thoughts.
Not so the current trend for ecards. This year I have received several all of which were immediately dispatched to the 'waste bin via trash. The most demeaning was from my bank who purported to be sending a Christmas message not even an ecard on the grounds of being green.
Do they not realize that for every tree cut down to make paper 4 new trees are planted? That these sustainable forest planted solely for paper production are rapidly becoming the lungs of the earth?
That water used by paper mills often returns to the river cleaner than when it entered the mills?
That the energy and materials used to manufacture computers and the power needed to run servers and the Internet is colossal and greatly contributes to carbon emissions world wide?
Someone somewhere, probably paid a large sum of money is clearly misinformed at this bank.
But what is the life expectancy of an ecard if in fact opened at all? Two seconds if that!
We here at Abacus have printed more Christmas Cards than ever this year. For charities, for churches, for families, for companies all of whom appreciate what a special individual printed card can say to the recipient. Christmas cards honour affections past and present and hopes of good times to come.
With all the snow, the views around us are breathtakingly beautiful, think now of next years Christmas cards and take all the fabulous pictures you can. here are some of the views around us.

Here at Abacus (colour printers)Ltd we close on 22 of December for our annual Christmas Holidays returning on the 4th of January 2011. Please do not leave a message on the answering machine as it will not be picked up until January.
All that remains to say, if you did not receive the Abacus Christmas card, is enjoy your Christmas, stay clear of the Christmas bug, and have a happy healthy New Year.

SEE THE DIFFERENCE WITH WATERLESS PRINTING

Waterless offset, as used here at Abacus (Colour Printers) Ltd for all our printing, gives much more vibrant colours, a larger colour and tonal gamut and increased detail when compared to conventional 'wet' offset printing.
This means that the darker areas are deeper and stronger, the mid tones more even and the highlights brighter and crisper. Your printed image takes on a dimensional quality not possible with conventional' wet' offset colour printing. Additionally when printing in the four process printing colours with waterless printing more colours will be printed, which is ideal for accurate Fine Art Printing.

Waterless offset printing therefore offers a more true to life print quality, whether it be postcards, greetings cards, brochures, calendars or Fine Art limited edition prints. All waterless offset here at Abacus (Colour Printers )Ltd is printed at 260 line screen, printing dots so small they are invisible to the naked eye, which ensures tonal and colour transitions are smooth and seamless.
Clean water, clean air, forest conservation, are all direct benefits of waterless offset printing. This is because waterless offset plate making and printing virtually eliminates chemical and volatile organic compounds(VOC's). These VOCs have been linked to the deterioration in the earths ozone layer (and headaches for the printing machine minder!).

Less waste, less pollution, improved quality of print. All cards are printed on our 380gsm Abacus card. This card is manufactured in Scotland to our unique specifications and is fully Forestry Stewardship Council compliant.
Share our "green ethos" by having your printing undertaken by experts in waterless offset printing in the Lake District National Park.
Its better for the planet - and better for you!
